More than 100 pieces of real-world work designed by Academy of Art University School of Graphic Design alums were entered into the inaugural Alumni Design Show, and were on display during the Homecoming 08 event.
The Alumni Design Show exhibit included work from clients such as Kettle Brand® Potato Chips, Clif ® Bar, Diet Coke®, XBOX® 360 Arcade, The NorthFace, See magazine, Pixar Animation Studios, Coors® Brewing Company, Williams Sonoma®, and Jack Daniels®.
Noted design industry leaders acted as show jurors to select five winners to receive the School of Graphic Design Homecoming 08 red house award. Awards were presented by Mary Scott, Chair, School of Graphic Design, and Phil Hamlett, Graduate Director, School of Graphic Design.
Ed O’Brien, Hybrid Design, San Francisco was awarded for his Impact Teen Driver campaign. A campaign focused on the dangers of text messaging while driving.
Sheri Kunyiki, Michael Osborne Design, San Francisco won for the Dutch Courage book. A letter pressed case bound book.
Erik Adams, Cahan & Associates, San Francisco, won for his work on the Herman Miller See magazine. Adams also won a second award for the Morrison and Forrester website.
Jure Gavran, Chen Design, San Francisco won for his Scapegoat Billy toys, his thesis project that was later developed and is now being marketed.
“It is amazing to see all of this work in one room, and to realize that we had the pleasure of teaching the creators of such wonderful design. We are so proud of them all. The Alumi Design Show is a great way for all to see what their peers are up to after graduation. We look forward to seeing the work the next Alumni Design Show will bring,” says Mary Scott, Chair, School of Graphic Design.
